Hey, quick question. If I had... Smoke/ash/sewage (human) in my car... what would be the best way to deodorize and sanitize without damaging the plastic?

Hypothetical of course....

Sorry, ‘smoke/ash’-’sewage’?

Plastics are very resilient, that said, don’t use anything that has a liquid in such as Ambipure airvent pods or California Scents as if they leek or fall over will rot the plastic causing thousands of dollars to put right.

First off, ash and smoke can be wiped to off with an all purpose cleaner. For ‘sedated’ (ie faecal matter), you want to use an antibacterial (such as Dettol) either in an all purpose form or disinfectant, wipe over the area, then wipe over with a dry cloth. If on fabric, let it soak in a little then wet vacuum it up.

On fabrics spray with some Febreeze and gently wipe off any residue.

You can buy odour bombs, Clobberizer, etc... which may be overkill so wait to see what a well ventilated and Fabreezed car would do

Some of the stuff I use isn’t available as far as I’m aware over there.

Personally I’d use Gtechniq I2ab antibacterial cleaner on all plastics and door card fabrics, then shampoo the fabric with Valet Pro Enzyme Odour Eater, scrubbing right in and the wet vacuuming up with an extractor nozzle. I would be borderline about using Hibiscrub which is used as surgery prep, which contains chlorohexidene gluconate and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol if it was a large area and the faecal matter had been allowed to dry for longer than I’d wish.

What happened? Smoke, ash AND sewage. It’s usually one or two but not all three unless it’s was a heavy smoker that miss called a fa rt (aka danger-fart).

Im a loss adjuster, I go to more than one horrifying claim a day. I've had blood/blueberry juice on the same day too

With blood and faecal matter you’ve got to glove up and preferably face mask and glasses up (a disposable paper overall is a good idea which available from most paint booth suppliers) as pathogens are a big if not major concern. If it’s you or a sibling it’s one thing but with strangers, always take precautions.

You’ll almost certainly have paper overalls, nitrile gloves (latex are nasty), face masks , glasses, 3M tape to be tape around cuffs and ankles to stop any insects, etc... getting under your clothing. Hibiscrub, hand sanitiser, eye wash, burns kit and comprehensive first aid kit in your vehicle and plenty of medical waste bags for disposal of used items . Basically anything a crime scene officer would have, you should have at your disposal should you need it.

Is that like when you get into your freshly washed car and see the row of cat prints in front of your face?

LOL - it’s supposed to snow on Saturday, so I was hoping for a week of clean car.  Oh well.

Antagonizing the kitty never ends well anyway. Retaliation in the form of a squirrel carcass or pile of vomit always results.

My neighbours Mini I cleaned on the 23 is back to how it was before. It’s lasted 10 days with these roads the way they are.

I'll pop over Wednesday or Thursday for the car keys to clean it again.
